Lower Conejos River B-35

Description: Located in the beautiful Conejos River valley, this streamside mile offers plenty of fishing on its 50- to 100-foot wide meandering section. Excellent structure added by the landowner and several braided areas make this an exciting piece. Riffles, deep holes and undercut banks give the rainbows and browns plenty of habitat. A prolific aquatic food supply adds to their girth.

Location: This Conejos section is located northwest of Antonito just east of the intersection of Hwy. 17 and CR 250.

We had very good fishing with large stonefly dries and elkhair caddis. Two of us released a total of about 16 fish which were 14 to 18 inches in length. We only caught a couple on nymphs. The water was a little high, so we had to carefully choose places to cross the river. The fish were almost all brown trout, with just a few rainbows. ~ John -- June 29th, 2014

Fished 11am - 5pm. Probably 10 good structure areas. Temp was below freezing overnight, up to 60 degrees by mid afternoon. In morning, caught 14" rainbow on purple hippie in pool fed by tributary. In afternoon caught 12" rainbow on streamer in deep pool at bend in the river, just above parking area. Both fish were not interested in a big fight. Really cool experience with beaver swimming right by my feet. His mate entered water from under an uprooted ball, swam toward me and then splashed the surface with her tail to let me know I wasn't welcome. ~ JR -- November 21st, 2013

Great property--beautiful water. Fished from 9:30am to 6:00pm. Morning warm and sunny. Slow fishing and nothing rising. As soon as the clouds rolled in in the afternoon, fishing became excellant. All fish caught on Pat's Rubber Legs--didn't matter what color and tried them all just to see. Lots of big rainbows but no browns. Will head back to this property soon. ~ Russ -- July 7th, 2013

Fished a half day on this beautiful property and had a great day. The water was in great shape with good flows and water temps. Lots of great runs and deep holes that held fish. Caught browns and bows up to 17" on nymphs. 20 inchers, PT's and Copper Johns in various colors were the ticket. I am looking forward to a return trip. Cheers ~ J Stringer -- January 1st, 1970
