Had a great day on this beautiful property. I began fishing around 8 am using a Royal Wolff on top trailing a small bead head pheasant tail nymph below. I started in the creek directly below the dam of the large beaver pond at the parking area. There are nice holes in the steam that all seem to hold at least one fish. I hooked a fish on my first cast which turned out to be a good indication of what was to come. The fish are healthy, strong, and plentiful and are not particularly picky about your choice of fly. Much more important is a stealthy approach as the fish can be quite spooky if they see you or detect your cast overhead. That said, if you are willing to tip-toe around and hide behind the willows and cast from your knees, you will be successful. Over the period of 8 hours fishing I landed countless fish, all but one on dry flies. In fact, I fished strictly dry flies after about the first 20 minutes once it became apparent the fish were wiling to rise to my dry. I landed several fish over 20" and about twice that many took me to school making multiple jumps then dashing under the banks and into the submerged brush. Very fun and exciting. I do want to mention that you will be challenged by lots of bushes and snags to hang up your casts so be prepared to untangle your stuff as the day wears on. As for flies, I used stimulators, a foam caddis, the Royal Wolff, and a fairly bushy adams. My selection was mainly based on what I would be able to see floating out there since the fish seemed willing to take any well-presented fly. Fish the creek and the beaver ponds as both have good fish populations. Have fun!

My buddy and I arrived about 10:30 to a greeting of cows who escorted us to the steam and ponds of Four Mile. We fished upstream with #16 misquitos and I had early success in the undercut banks. Then came a really nice rainbow about 18" in a beaver pond who fought hard and was nice and fat. Two other times I connected with some good size trout in the 12" to 14" range. I was using a 7x tippett and was broken off four times! Twice with a hopper. At the end of the day about 5, my buddy landed the fish of the day that was 20" on a copper john nymph. All and all we landed eight nice fish and had probably ten more that we should have caught. I think the property was very fishable and the willows wern't much of an issue for a 9 1/2' rod.

Good day today. Caught 18 fish (browns, rainbows, brookies) in that order. Browns were prolific. Rainbows were VERY healthy. Biggest was 18.5 inch rainbow hen which I caught right after I caught her 16 inch her boyfriend in the same hole. Tight casting on this property as the stream is narrow and willows ever present. Swamp wading among ice plugs takes concentration but very doable. I felt like I was in the middle of nowhere yet was just outside Fairplay. Nice property!

My son and I have fished this nice little stream several times over the years, but never seen it running so big. The water was running fast and colored - really a latte-colored - and not helped by the huge number of cattle traipsing across everywhere. Even the beaver ponds were virtually opaque, and deeper than I have ever seen them. We did catch a number of small-mid sized browns in the stream sections and my son landed a nice 18 inch rainbow. We fished a variety of nymphs all day - red and green copper johns, beadhead prince and beadhead pheasant tails. We never did see a fish come to the surface so we stayed away from dries. The ever-present S Park wind appeared only occasionally and the day was generally bright and sunny.

Temp. was in the low 70's and mostly sunny, little wind! The water was in good shape. I only had about 2 1/2 hours to fish thanks to an appointment! I concentrated most of my efforts on the beaver ponds in the middle part of the lease, along with some of the channels running between the beaver ponds. I landed 4 Browns 8-10" and 1 rainbow about 12 ". The Browns all danced and cleared the water by a foot, showing determination despite their smallish size. All 5 trout were caught on BH Pheasant Tails that I had tied up the night before! Not bad for a tyer who has only been doing this for a couple of months. There was a large herd of cattle meandering through the hills and pasture on the way in. FYI, the drive to the parking spot, is 1.5 miles off the paved road through some rough terrain, so be aware!

The temperature was in the 70's and just a few clouds in the sky. My only complaint was the wind was gusting at times. The creek was very full and therefore the clarity wasn't particularly good. I was told the creek was running at 40 csf. I caught approximately 15 fish. Most of the fish I caught were in the center of the property. I never explored the lower third and the upper third was difficult to make out because so much of the field around the creek was under water. About a dozen of my catches were brook trout in the 7 to 10 inch range. I caught 3 rainbow with two being in the 14-16 inch range and one lunker that was 20-21 inches in size. The big rainbow are hiding in the beaver ponds. I hooked on to one fairly early in the morning that looked like it was in the 20+ inch range. He broke my 5x line so I switched to a 4x line. A few minutes later I hooked up another very large rainbow and this time he took the fly with him. In a different beaver pond I was finally able to land a monster rainbow with a couple of additional rainbow not long after. There was very little dry fly action. I caught just a couple on a parachute adams and a stimulator. I caught the vast majority of the fish with red and green copper john. Excellent day.

Fished for about 3 hours before the third rain shower of the morning forced me to call it quits. Caught about a dozen browns between 6 and 12 inches in all types of water. Saw a few larger fish in the holes and by the banks, but couldn't get them interested. The beaver pond/marsh area didn't seem as productive as the lower third of this stretch. Overall, good fun, fast action for small stream 3 wt fishing.

My dad and I fished the property for the first time. It was unique, and took us a while to get the lay of the land. Once we figured it out, we started catching fish and all in all we hooked about 20 fish, with several being rainbows in the 8-10 inch range, and the rest were browns.
We had a great day...
Thanks! |

Fished 8:30AM to 1:30PM. Caught 30 -40 fish, all browns, 8 inches and under except for one colorful rainbow about 13 inches. Every decent cast to decent water produced a fish. No hatches of any kind in progress.
There are definitely bigger fish here. I waded up through each bend pool and saw at least one 12-13 inch fish in each pool. It was amazing how close the fish in the deep pools would let me get before they spooked.
Plenty of water in the creek and judging from the fresh snow on top of older drifts on the thirteeners, water will be good all summer.

What a great property... Greeted by a huge herd of elk when I first arrived and popped over the hill. Fished from about 10 to 1 starting down streeam and working up tp the beaver ponds. Lots of fish but there is only one word to describe them - SPOOKY. Any shadow or high movement would send them running for cover. After I figured out how to sneak up on them it seemed they would take anything. But once you get a fish from a hole move on. That hole is dead for the next hour or so. The pools below the beaver dams hold some very nice fish while the further down you go the smaller they get. Total count for the 3 hours was 9 fish (all browns) with the best at 16". Come prepared to get your gear dirty and PLEASE WATCH OUT FOR QUICKSAND. It is here and it is quick! Will be back later in the year for some more dry action.

Saturday was a beautiful day. Sunny and 65 degrees. The aspens are about a week away from hitting peak. Two of us caught around 10 - 12 fish each in four hours of fishing. Fish ranged between 4" and 14". Mostly browns a few rainbows and one brookie each. The bows were the larger fish and were all located in the beaver ponds. I saw several larger fish in the beaver ponds, however couldn't sneak up on them or didn't have a way to get a fly in front of them. There certainly are some nice fish in there though. We left when the weather changed. It clouded up and the temp dropped to 45 degrees and started to rain.

Pleanty of action. Beautiful stream and views of the mountain. Landed 27 Borwns and 1 Brookie from 4 - 12 inches. Had as many or more missed strikes. There were hitting on dry flies so I said what the heck, let's see what they'll take - parachute adams, royal trude, PMD and trico, as well as bead head pheasent tail. I dropped the dropper and just used the dry. Heavy mid afternoon hatch of Tricos. Water still high and running all through the marsh, but clear. Hard to keep track of the main channels. There seemed to be two but Icouldn't attest to it. My walking staff came in very handy when crossing the wet land back to the car. Not mucn action for me in the beaver ponds. Time ran out before I could walk to the top of the property. |

A good day to enjoy Colorado and some of teh best trout fishing I have had this year. 4 mile creek is a small stream, perfect for a 3 weight rod. In the morning I landed 3 Browns 10 to 14 inches, using a red worm as an attractor followed by a yellow stone fly (the old style-using yellow/gold wire as outer body). Then the FUN began right after lunch-I headed to the beaver dams and changed to a Royal Wulff-I did not realize this small stream could produce LARGE Rainbow trout. They went after the Royal Wulff as if they had not eaten for a long time. Landed 3 BIG trout, 1-18-inch, 1-20- inch and 1-21-inch. I will return to 4 mile creek again. |

Started fishing about 9:00 AM. First of many wind knots 15 seconds later. The wind was howling all day as a front came through. Very hard casting and cold. The water was clear and although over the banks in many places around the beaver dams, it was still very fishable. The wind was the main problem. Caught 6 fish...4 small browns and two Rainbows in the 8-10 inch range. Saw and missed several more. Used mainly beadhead hares ears, pheasant tails, copper johns and San Juan worm. Most action on the hare's ear. Got blown off the water at 3:00 PM when a snow storm came in. I'll try this property again later on in the summer. I think it would be a great dry fly property.

Arrived about noon, gusty wind so tried small weighted nymphs thinking control would be better in wind. Noticed a rise or two, switched to dries, #16 light color, when I could get a decent cast between gusts the hits were frequent. Many small to medium browns, largest 12 inches. Steady hard wind by 5pm, but overall a good fishing afternoon.

Loved the property. The kind of fishing I grew up with. Caught over 30 fish, one was a 13" rainbow on the upper section, one 13" brown on the lower section by the fence. Novice companions didn't do quite as well.

Fished A-2 with two buddies on July 1. The fish were taking most any dry including wulffs, humpies, parachute adams, caddis, and taking copper john droppers as well. Each rod caught several dozen fish, mostly small browns, but a few rainbows 11' -14" were fooled as well. The wading and walking was a little tough because of all the braids and mud, but it is a fun property and great for summer dryflying for mostly smaller fish.

Caught 3 rather small brown trout (green copper johns and yellow humpy 16 to 18) and one 13 inch Rainbow (16 bead head prince nymph). Using barbless hooks and lost another 3 brown trout. Best to find a patch of water to float flys downstream below undercut banks. Water is clear and trout are very spooky. Downriver soft mud makes wading very difficult, best to stay on banks. Upriver very braied water and marshy. Not much serious casting unless in lower beaver ponds where area is somewhat open. Nice area and fun to fish.

Fourmile creek was a little high and off-color. Used small streamers to catch some 9-12" browns and one 16" rainbow. There were hoppers and BWO'S present in one beaver pond in the afternoon. A cool property.
