Two of us fished this in the morning from about 10:00 to 12:30. Water was a little high and off color, but still fishable. Did not have any luck, tried sj worm, prince, and rs-2's. Also, did not see any surface activuty or any hatches. Did notice a few small green midge larvae on the rocks I turned over trying to see what other patterns might work.

Great way to spend Father's Day since my son and wife were both working. Fished in the morning in the lower public water up to bridge and landed 7 browns on elk hair caddis and yellow humphey. Saw a 30" fish and another 2 that went between 26-28" ------ they were pike and was able to walk withing 6 feet of them in a deep hole. Fished the afternoon from the bridge to upper property boundary and caught 8-10 bows on copper john - 5 of them 18"+. Had to work the deep holes hard and sneakily to get the big boys to bite. Most of the bows were fat like footballs. Morning started at 48F air temp with 55F water. Afternoon 80F with 68F water.

Started early and fished late. Stream flow and level much lower then 3 weeks prior. Water level down about a foot which changed the characteristics of the holes where the fish were. Not a single cloud in the sky all day and hot (80+) made for some spooky fish. Fished from the bridge upstream in the am and from the down stream fence boundry up to the bridge in the pm. Large Prince Nymph caught large rainbows while anything small and gray caught browns. Caught one 18" plus 3 lb. rainbow "river monster" and a couple of 15" very healthy specimens as well. Overall haul of about 16 fish between my partner and I evenly divided between morning and afternoon. Surrounding meadows were absolutely full of wild flowers (iris and some columbines) which made for a picture postcard day of fun.

Two of us fished A-10 which was very breezy to almost windy and shrouded in smoke from the fires in New Mexico. Temp between 50 and 65 for the day and the flow was about optimal. Each caught around twenty evenly mixed between rainbows and browns and all between 10 to 16 inches. All appeared healthy although one had a bite out of its back most likely from a pike. No real consistency on the bugs although the afternoon produced well on a size 14 Prince trailing a gray sow bug.

I fished A-10 on Saturday, May 5. Weather was clear to partly cloudy with limited morning wind that picked up in the afternoon. Water was very clear and could see stream bottom almost throughout which allowed some effective sight fishing. Temperatures were in the 60's. I must say that is was the best day fishing that I have had on any of the Tarryall River properties of RMAC. I knew it was going to be a special day when I missed a fish on my first cast and landed one on my second cast. I stopped counting landed fish at 15. Missed at least another 10 plus. Several rainbows were in the 15/16 inch range. Browns from the 8 to 12 inch range. Used a double rig with a #18 Prince Nymph and a #20 Pheasant Tail most of the time. Had I used a Stimulator dropper set-up I would have several more fish as my small indicator got several aggressive hits. The fish were generally where you would expect them to be in holes, undercut banks, and in riffles at the head and tails of runs. Absolutely a great day fishing all around. It was a blast!

Wonderful day catching about 35 fish! I fished from 9:00 to 5:30 or so. My biggest fish was a football sized rainbow that really gave my 3-weight a workout. I measured him at 19 inches and was he a porker! I caught most on my dropper fly (bead head pheasant tail) but also some on the surface (a small stimulator). Probably 25 browns and ten rainbows. Smallest fish was probably 8 inches with most in the 14 to 16 inch range. Shared the property with another member (nice fellow also named Gary) and there was PLENTY of room for both of us. GREAT PROPERTY!

Tough day! Water somewhat high, but very off color. Visibility was between 6-12". Tried everything in my box. Caught 3 on nymphs, and turned one 8" fish on a streamer. The fish caught were very deep, but the water is fast which made it hard to get good presentations in much of the river. Wait until the flow drops and the water clears.

Fished from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM. The wind blew my hat down the road as soon as I got out of the car and never let up. It was brutal.
The water was low and clear. Don at RMAC told me the water might be to low but I thought I would try it anyway. It was fishable but I have fished this property before in higher water and it was a lot more productive. I tried all the usual beadhead nyph patterns, egg patterns, Wooley Buggers, Streamers. Never got a strike, never saw a fish. I have had very good luck on this property throughout the Summer and Fall so i know there are a lot of fish there. Just one of those days. Still had fun and gave me an opportunity to work on getting my wind knots out. You can't do that at home !!

Not a fantastic day but a good day. Explored and fished the entire area with fish most everywhere some in the 14 to 16 " range--largest were bows caught on bedhead black wollybuggers. Extensive caddis hatch all day but no fish riseing. Late in the day tried a #8 black and tan bettle on the surface and many fish rose to it. Take lots of spray for the bugs as they were prolific.

Well, it's days like today that make me appreciate the days when you lose count of how many fish you land. Counting was easy today: 0 for me, 3 for Diana. No idea what was up: Water had come down, was a bit cloudy but not too bad, 48058 degrees water temp, not terribly windy. I've fished this property several times in the past, and have a pretty good idea where the fish hold. We tried every technique known to man (and woman), to very little avail. Heck, the only fish I saw all day was a monster pike that just sneered at me. But he wasn't feeding either.

Don't be put off, this is a great property....just not on this day. See my earlier log entries on this one for some info on what combinations (think deep, with dark colored nymphs) have worked on better days.

1st time on this nice property. Very sunny, mild wind and No hatches.
Landed over 30 fish with largest a 19" rainbow. Majority were browns 8-14"s. Used hopper dropper with parachute hopper (size 8) and copper johns (brass and red size 18) and caught about equal amounts on the dry and dropper. No looks at small dries and did not fish any streamers.

My father in law and i fished this property on Monday. Big winds & big fish some in the 20 inch range, black buggers were the ticket ,some really nice fish in there. Saw a couple of blue wings hatch, but just to windy. The upper lease has some very nice improvements. By the way what happened to spring?

A mostly windy bug-less day on A-10, still better than being in town. Managed to coax three average browns and one rainbow on black egg sucking leech patterns. Not a rise to be seen, I did have one smack my bead head floating under an Adams. Beautiful property, easy drive from the south end of town and easy to find. I'd love to be there during any kind of hatch!!

The following report is from an RMAC member:

A-10, Saturday Aug 8. Water pretty low, hot, and not a cloud to be seen, making things more challenging. That said, Diana and I had a great day, with about 15-20 fish between us. Had to really work the banks to find the browns, and the bows were holding deep in the pools. But as the day wore on, they would occassionally rise to a hopper (it was windy), more frequently taking the chartruse copper john. Later, in the early evening, a small pheasant tail was the ticket, landing several strong rainbows. I landed a number of them up until dark, but Diana had the prize of the day....a strong 22" rainbow on her way in to dinner!

The fishing was good, but the overnight stay with Phil and Shiela Halstead was the highlight of the visit. Their hospitallity, Shiela's fine cooking, the cocktails before dinner and an outstanding steak with bleu cheese capped off a great day. Highly recommend staying with t he Halstead's to other members.

The water was very low, and felt pretty warm. Fish were hard to find, but the browns were in the riffles and the rainbows were in the few deep holes. Only managed a dozen fish but the rainbows ran 16"-17" and fought hard.

This property and stream are great examples of why I have belonged to the RMAC since its inception--scenic valley, beautiful and well-managed stream, and 1.5 miles of good fishing all to myself!! Partly cloudy day, 70 degrees, variable wind as storms blew through in the afternoon. Hit the stream around 8:45 a.m. just after the sun was rising over the ridge. Caught several nice browns and rainbows right off the bat near the bridge using flies recommended by club members in their reviews--yellow stimulator with a dropper (#10 stimulator and #16 tung teaser) on one rig, and a red SJ worm and flash-wing prince (#14) on the other. By the time I broke for lunch (and cover ) at 2 pm, I had taken about 2/3rds of 15 or so fish on the nymphs--mostly the tung teaser and prince-- including all of the rainbows. Only the brownies were looking up. The browns went from 10-14 inches and the rainbows 12-15. Lost a big one that snapped my 5X leader a couple of bends above the bridge. After a storm blew through, I got back on the stream at the lower end around 3:30 pm. Immediately caught a nice 15-inch rainbow and some brownies. An hour later the rainbows started to hit the stimulator--and I hooked and landed a 23 incher that was hiding under one of the big rocks the owner has placed strategically in the stream. Biggest river rainbow I have ever taken--great battle and very strong fish as all were on this water. A bit later I took two 18-inch browns on the tongue teaser along a shallow foam line. By 7:30 pm the action had died down. Took one last fiesty brown about 14 inches a couple of pools below the bridge and called it a day--a wonderful day!!

Fished A-10 morning and early afternoon on the downstream section. Started with a size 10 olive wooly bugger with black rubber legs. Caught several 12-14 inch browns, two rainbows 15-16 inches, and one large rainbow of 19-20 inches. Switched to elk hair caddis dry, walked downstream and caught numerous 8 - 14 inch browns in the fast riffles and in almost every fishable spot. Sometimes willows made stream access somewhat difficult, but if a fly could be presented, the fish were eager. Nice section of the Tarryall!

Fished all morning and early afternoon, caught mostly 12-14 inch Rainbows using Red Worm followed by a bead-head prince. Mosquitoes are hungry so use a lot of repellent.
Good stream excellent wading.

Wonderful property !! Plenty of fish. Many Rainbows in the 10-14" range. Many smaller browns. Caught fish primarily on a two nyph dropper set up.....beadhead hares ear and beadhead pheasant tail. Fished all day from 8:30 until 5:00 and catch was pretty steady. Water levels good and easy to wade.

My first trip to A10. It's a nice little creek much like all our Tarryall leases. It was a "Dial a Fish" day today. If you wan't to catch all the smallish browns(6 to 12 inches) you can handle tie on a Stimulator with any standard dropper. In fact forget the dropper, the only two fish I caught on the dropper all day were "flossed" onto the dropper after I missed the set on the stimmy. If you want a little bigger fish all rainbows (12 to 16 inches) tie on a black or olive bugger. Didn't catch a single brown on the bugger and not a single rainbow on anything but a bugger. BTW the rainbows were the hardest fighting 12 inchers I've ever caught, they looked like regular rainbows but fought like those donaldsons we used to have afew years ago. 25+ fish day 9 to 3 oclock.
