Arrived early at 8:30 a. m. to a beautiful day. It would turn out to be much nicer than in Denver. Fishing was slow until about 11 a.m. I don't know if it took us that long to find what the fish wanted or if the fish just needed to wake up. There was plenty of bug activity the whole time we were there, but that didn't necessairly mean the fish were interested. My guest and I fished the creeks from 8:30 until 1:00 p.m. We started picking up fish on copper johns and rainbow warriors. Tried pink and red san juan worms with no luck. After lunch we hit the pond with wooly buggers for an hour. We each landed a few fish, but nothing of great size. From there, we tried the Roaring Fork. Looking back, we probably should have tried the Fork sooner. There was lots of surface action to big (s 14) caddis. We caught a few fish on caddis drys until I tied on a caddis emerging pattern and the action really started heating up. The action lasted for another couple of hours before the river turned off. It was about 5 p.m. at that time so we hit the spring creek one more time before calling it a day. In all, my guest and I caught 15 to 20 fish a piece. The largest being a 22" rainbow in the spring creek. I lost a very large brown in the river. Had him on for at least 10 minutes and had him at the net several times but never could get him in. Over half the fish we caught came from the Fork with the rest being split between the creek and the pond. Great long day of fishing.

My friend Tim and I fished this property twice the same week, a testament to the quality of the fishery and the diversity this property offers. Weather was excellent both days, with temperatures in the mid-40s to start the day and in the 60s and 70s at the end of the day. We both landed about 10 fish each, each day, with 3-4 in the 20-inch plus category. Overall 2/3 rainbows, 1/3 browns. We mostly fished large streamers, in black and brown.
On Tuesday, we focused our efforts on the Main Spring Creek, the North Fork and the Roaring Fork. While the former did produce only one fish for us, the latter two did not disappoint. We focused our efforts in the deep pools on the upper North Fork and we did well in that area, landing several fish in the 20-inch plus category. Later in the afternoon we turned our attention to the Roaring Fork where, in spite of the water being a bit off color, we continued to do well on streamers. We only caught browns in the Roaring Fork.
Friday was very similar to Tuesday in many respects, with a couple notable exceptions. We fished the pond early in the day, both with large streamers and nymphs, with no success. Later in the afternoon, an impressive caddis hatch came off the Roaring fork and we switched to dries with great success. We had never fished Gianinetti ranch before and we were both extremely pleased with our experience.

Fished the north creek, large pond, and the small pond next to the bridge as you drive in. 30 fish overall, 2 to 1 Rainbows to Browns plus one cutty in the large pond. 4 bows 20"-21" on the north creek. Used various beadheads and SJ worms. All fish on the creek were in the deeper water below the improvements. The rest of the creek was devoid of fish. Used small dries in the small pond to risers. Streamers produced 3 fish in the large pond. Beautiful day in the 70's. Water was slightly off color in the creeks. Didn't fish the fork.

Arrived at Gianinetti’s at 9:00 AM with heavy snowing falling. Snowed for about an hour then the snow stopped and there were grey skies the remainder of the day. Fished until 2:00 PM and landed 15+ fish on the North Fork and also 3 Browns from the Roaring Fork. I fished a weighted San Juan Worm and a green colored Prince Nymph below the worm. Most were caught on the Prince Nymph. Most fish were located at the head of each pool with many very light takes. I used the same rig on the Roaring Fork and quickly caught 3 Brown’s in about 10 minutes. I noticed many rising fish in the riffles so I tied on a #20 Para Adams and on the first cast had a hard take but I did not hook the fish. Another 10 minutes and several flies later with no more takes the rising fish stopped and I went back to the spring creeks. I landed 2 Browns in the spring creek and the largest fish of the day was a 20” Brown, the remainder of the fish were healthy Rainbows. There are 3 Golden Eagles in the trees keeping a sharp eye on the spring creeks.

George Schmidt and I fished most of the day. Early in the year the fish are concentrated in the Spring Creeks in the pools. We caught several fish on midge and small may fly nymph patterns in the pools. Caught a couple larger fish on a white streamer in the pools. One hooked on white streamer was well in excess of 20" but lost at the net.

In the afternoon we spent some time in the pool next to the entry road fishing small #18 - #20 BWO dries and caught several fish in the 14" -16" range.

We fished the pond with no luck - no takes. We will come back this summer when the fish are more spread out.

The weather was beautiful, sunny and 70F and the water was low and off color in the Creeks. Two nice browns first two cast on the Main Creek. Fished BH Prince or BH Hares Ear followed by a red San Juan worm most of the day in the creeks. Fishing was good until about 2:30pm and then it slowed down in the creeks. Went over to the large pond and had a nice afternoon stripping a Pats Rubber Legs. Picked up a nice Brown on my fist cast and then worked my way around the pond landing six nice Bows and Browns. Water was clear in the pond and the fish were active. Fished the Fork for about 45 min earlier in the afternoon with no luck. Water was low and clear but nothing active. About a 15 or 20 fish day; however, nothing bigger than 15". Another RMAC angler showed up mid day and we chatted before leaving about 5:30pm. Both agreed the day was slow for C-60 as he reported landing seven fish. No hatches observed anywhere on the property.

Another great day on Gianinetti. Arrived around 11:00 and fished until 5:00 or so. Many, many fish in the 14-19" range, a few smaller and (sadly) none over 20" although I have no doubt they are in there. Mostly rainbows, but a few browns as well. The North Fork is fishing especially well, though they are spookier than I remember, so staying low, giving each prime lie a handful of casts then moving on was the strategy. The rig that I settled on was a #12 red get-down worm (I have become partial to this pattern instead of split-shot for nymph rigs-it sinks in a hurry and, unlike spit-shot, often catches fish) followed by an orange #12 San Juan worm, caught many fish on both patterns. Used 4X all day which helped me get them to the net fast and back in the streams/pond in good shape. This rig worked all day. Once again, I had so much fun on the spring creeks I couldn't pull myself away to hit the Roaring Fork. The (recently stocked??) pond had 13-16" rainbows stacked up below both culvert inlets- pulled 5 in this size range out of the ponds just before heading home, tossing this rig into those inlets. Fish were everywhere you'd expect them to be in the creeks.

Gianinetti is perfect right now. I fished the main and north creeks for most of the day and finished on the Roaring Fork. All water was open and looking great. Creeks were slightly off-color due to all the recent snowmelt, but this did not slow the fishing. All fish on the creeks took a medium-sized red San Juan worm with a tungsten bead fished in the seams under an indicator adjusted to the proper depth. The idea is to get the fly down fast, but keep it a few inches off of the bottom to avoid snags. The Roaring Fork was gin-clear and looking about as good as it gets. I only fished the fork for about 15 minutes before I left, but I saw dozens of fish and landed a fat, strong rainbow on a size 12 little golden stone. Literally tons of fish in the creeks and the river. Had the property to myself and fished from about 10:45 to 4:00. Landed approximately 30 fish, losing many more due to subtle takes and bad hook sets. Mostly rainbows, several cuttbows, and a few browns to the net. All fish over 14 inches with several over 20, including a monster 25 inch male rainbow over five pounds taken in the north creek. In the creeks the fish seemed to be closer to the heads of the pools throughout the day. There were, however, a few giant fish on the north creek that broke this rule, and I promptly scared them before I even knew they were there. This was an amazing day on an amazing property. I will be coming back. In the mean time you should go.

Beautiful weather for the last day of November... highs in the mid 50s, partly sunny. Best action on the Roaring Fork, caught a mix of browns and rainbows up to 16". Best flies were a chartreuse egg pattern and a zebra midge. Very little activity on the spring creeks, was only able to land 1 rainbow on a San Juan worm. We also caught several in the lower pond, a couple on a wooly bugger and the rest on the zebra midge. Great day to get out and do some "winter" fishing!

This is the second RMAC property I have fished and I chose it based on the recommendation of the helpful RMAC staff and recent reviews. If anything it exceeded its reputation! Went out on the 19th and had so much fun I headed back again the 27th. Both days I got on the water before 9 and fished until I could no longer see my hopper-indicator. 30+ fish each day- 50% over 15". Almost all in the spring creeks, a handful out of the pond by the culvert inlets. It seemed a shame not to hit the Roaring Fork with it so close but the fishing was so good on the creeks I couldn't bring myself to leave them. They are keyed in on worms and the trick is to get them down in a hurry- some weight is key. I used a foam hopper/SJW dropper rig- caught most on the dropper with a few spirited takes on the hopper as well. I started using 4x to help pull these beasts out of the weeds/tangles when I ran out of 4x I switched to 3x and they did not seem to shy away from it. Caught several over 20" with the big boy at 24" (and I understand they get substantially bigger in here) mostly rainbows but some huge browns as well. All in all an amazing experience in some spectacular country- both days. I'm starting to think joining RMAC was a very good decision!

Weather overcast with some showers. Excellent for fishing. 15 or so fish from 9am to 4pm. Para hopper in am brought 6-7 fish mix of browns and bows 8-17" . WB in afternoon brought 20" beaut brown above pond and 18" bow at confluence with Roaring Fork. Missed some really big fish under the banks where it took casts which were very difficult. Got them to come out but only one shot! Good day at C-60 as usual.

Just plain silly., is what I have to say after fishing here. The fish are huge and tons of fun to catch. I started the day with a beetle and a mercury dropper caught fish in the fist pool next to the parking area. I fished the roaring fork with this rig and landed at least ten there all browns. I went back to the truck for more water and switched to a huge foam hopper and that is when it got silly huge fish well over twenty both rainbows and browns crushed my fly. After lunch I switched to a streamer and had even more fun.Over twenty fish all day, biggest one at least twenty seven inches. This place is awesome the fall colors in the roaring fork valley and huge fish all day does not get any better. The guys at Alpine anglers are very cool and please remember to respect Ernie's fish.

Cool overcast day. Started fishing at 8:30 AM. Just for grins as I started to walk along the path by the parking lot, I threw a hopper with a green Copper John dropper into the hole by the culvert next to the road. A 14" Rainbow slammed the Copper John and that was the start to a great day at the Gianetti''s. I walked to the river. It was low and clear and easy wading from bank to bank. I had never been able to fish the opposite bank and the irrigation ditch before because the water has always been too high and fast. There were fish everywhere. I used mainly a double dropper with a BH Prince and BH Pheasant tail. Caught approximately 15 fish and missed several others. Caught two 18 inch Rainbows and couldn't get two others in. Many browns in the 8-12 inch range. Fished until 3:30 and walked back to the car to regroup for evening fishing on the creeks and ponds. Talked to Mr. Gianetti for a while and he recommended fishing the creek by the pavilion. Said they had been feeding the fish there and there were some real "hogs" in those holes A big storm came in and hung over the area so that was the end of my fishing day.
Another great day at C-60.

Warm day in Carbondale. Fished the middle spring up and down. 12-15 fish with 80 per cent on black WB-a few on hopper. All bows 14-18" and in good fighting form. One monster on bugger but had on 6x ( knew I should have changed) and could not move him. Finally had to give him my best and move on. Lots of moss this year but the big guys love to wait under it waiting for some easy pickings.

What a great place to fish. We fished the Spring Creeks mostly and midday the pond.

Between George Schmidt and I we caught over 20 fish for the day. The best was a 20+ inch bow on a #18 sulfer dry. There are some gigantic fish in the spring creek. We moved some fish over 5lbs from underneath the banks fishing down stream with wooly buggers and caught a couple in the 2-3 lb range.

Hooked several other 3+ lb bows and cuts on hopper dries along the spring creek banks and from underneath the grass cover.

I think this property offers some of the most diverse fishing available for our club.

Fished property one day, lots of sun till pm clouds came over. Fished Roaring Fork and caught 1 16 inch cut, then the larger creek, some hits on grasshopper and then the small creek with some fish taken. Fished near the dam -sight fished to cruising rainbows-some caught here and a few broken off with 5x tippet. After lunch fished middle creek with good results fish up to 21 inches taken on a San Juan work. Thunderstorms drove us off at 5pm.

Ist trip to C-60 in a couple of years but the best fishing I've experienced there. Caught fish in all of the available waters on a variety of dry flies and nymphs. Weather was sunny in the a.m. which limited the action but the clouds rolled in after lunch and the action turned up. Success on stimulator patterns, assorted BH nymphs, and flying ants in the slower water. Highlights included a 20+ inch rainbow hooked in the small channel that feeds the lower pond... actually tried to escape up the drain pipe before taking me down into the lower pond and a 20+ inch brown hooked in the Roaring Fork on a big orange stimulator.

After reading and hearing about this property for years, I finally had the opportunity to fish it. I can enthusiastically report that this property lived up to its reputaion. It was a hot sunny day and although the Roaring Fork was unusually low for this time of year, creek flows appeared normal and clear. It seemed that any derivative of a mayfly nymph imitaition size 14-18 with a bead head would work in the deep holes. The challenge was using the correct amount of weight to get the fly down quickly but not too much weight to sink into the weeds below the hole. Caught several browns and rainbows up to 21 inches all over the property. I would recommend a 5wt rod less than 9 feet in length due to occasional tight casting situations. I used 5X tippet all day and was only broke off a couple times which honestly was more my fault than that of the fish. I look forward to fishing this property again.

I fished from 10:00 AM – 2:30 PM on a very nice sunny day. The pond closest to the road as you come down to park is in the process of being dredged so there is not much water in the pond and the creek running out of the pond is off color. The main spring creek is very low but clear. I landed 15 Rainbows and Browns in the main creek. Most fish were caught on a #16 orange scud. A couple were caught on a Prince nymph. The Roaring Fork is very wadeable right now and the clarity is good. In only 30 minutes I landed 3 Browns and had another two on but lost on a BHPT. I had one nice Rainbow feeding on the surface in the main creek. After 3 drifts the fish took my Ant and that fish measured 18” and was the fish of the day.

Started at about 9:30, fished until 6:30 pm. Cool in am, sunny, warmed to 80's. Water (finally) has come down, and the fishing was excellent. Simple too: Hoppers. In fact, after starting with a hopper/dropper and having enough large fish just attack the hopper, I got rid of the dropper execpt in the deepest pools. Still, of the 30-40 fish that I, Diana, and our son Sean caught, 90% were on the dry, including the biggest ones (several in the 19-20" range).

As in the past, the best fishing for me is in the creeks, and the narrower the better as the big boys spread out, lurk on the banks, and hammer a dry as it goes by. Don't hesitate to give a good-looking spot 5 or 6 casts, we found that many of the strikes came after repeated offerings. Look for shade, of course, as that made the fish much more likely to rise.

Kudos to the Gianinetti's as well for their youth fishing program. Our son had a blast, caught several healthy, large fish, and left a happy kid.

Gianinetti's did not disappoint. The creeks were slightly high and still off-color, and the fish were not guarded at all. A purple San Juan worm was all that was needed to pick a fish out of each hole and run. We didn't land any of the monsters, but I hooked three of them, each of which played me for more of a fool than the last. Those larger fish really know how to shake a hook in the creeks. Rather than only rainbows as in years past, our group took some cutbows, browns, and one brookie out of the creeks as well. Also, the Fork was high--running over 2,000 cfs still--but it fished great for browns in the slack and shallower water along the banks. One person in our group took a 20"+ brown from the shallower riffles at the lower end of the property near where the creek joins the Fork. Purple San Juan worm was deadly in the Form as well.

Okay I’ve read the RMAC write up on C60 several times, but I don’t get it. One to four weight? The fish are too large for that. Perhaps, it’s because every time I go there the water is off color. I bring out my 6 weight, 4X, large bugs or streamers, and pink San Juans. Until last week I never caught a fish there under 18 inches. And they are fat and aggressive. I need the heavy tippet and big stick to land them and keep them away from roots, twigs, etc. Landowner Ernie Gianetti has really made this one of RMAC’s premier properties. Main Creek which runs mainly South to North has many slower and wider sections where there are frequent midge hatches. Okay I had to go down to a four weight, 6X, and #20 midges there. But later on after a the hatch I threw a large Sculpzilla and was glad I was on the 6 weight so I could keep the 20 incher out of the culvert. According to Ernie middle creek doesn’t hold that many fish because they are not enough holding areas. However, I caught and 18 inch Brown right between the culvert and where it joins main creek. But most of the fun is on the North Fork which is the longest creek with the most holding areas. It seems that the fish get larger the higher you go on it. Approach is key as well as planning how you are going to land these jumbos. Know where you are going to run and where you are going to step in the creek. Some of those holes are over your head. Oh yeah, bring a big net with a long handle. Cheers,Wallace Wallace Westfeldt303 449-4091303 601-1902wallace@mudbugco.comwww.mudbugco.com

I fished from 9:00 – 1:00. The creeks were running high and slightly off color bur very fishable. I landed 6 Rainbows and 4 Browns. Most fish were caught on a BH red worm but I tried an olive streamer and that caught a couple of nice fish. The best fish of the day was on a #20 Para Adams. The large Rainbow was taking BWO’s on the surface tight against the far bank. It took several casts but the take and fight were great. The tall river vegetation is thick and a bad cast usually takes your flies.

Took my sons for a lesson (thanks to the owners for waiving the rod fee for this purpose this year, much appreciated). By far the best fishing on this trip was on the "north fork", and the water got clearer the further uphill one went. Caught 6 or 7 large, fat 'bows in the pools below the stream improvements, not bad considering I spent 90% of the time tying on flies, untangling lines, and all the rest that goes with teaching others to fish. All of the fish were caught by nymphing deep, lots of weight.

The closer to the Roarking Fork you got, the murkier the water.

The ponds were slower at dusk than I expected, but perhaps that was due to the sunshine.

Not an exceptional day on the Gianinetti property but not a bad one either. The water in the Spring Creeks was high and off color, some stretches dirty, but managed to land three nice Rainbows and a nice brown all between 12 and 15"s. The Fork was unfishable. Fished from noon to about 6pm and caught all fish on a san wan worm. Ran through the gamet of everything in the box but that was all they would take--no hatch of any kind noticed. Tried the large pond around five in the afternoon but no hatch and no takers--water was off color, almost dirty. The cows were happy though taking baths in the pond. The young Gianinette came around while I was taking a break having a beer and we chatted for awhile--nice fellow. All-in-all, a nice day.

Beautiful day on a beautiful property. The fishing was difficult on the spring creeks. The fish were glued to the bottom of the deepest holes and it seemed that you had to hit them right on the nose to get a take. We didn't fish the Fork very long, nor did we hit the ponds. In all, 2 of us caught 10 fish. The largest being a 18" and two 20"cutbows and a 22" rainbow. All our fish were caught on either a red or pink san juan worm, or caddis pupas (tan and olive). We threw a lot of other patterns but it always ended up on the worm or the caddis. It sure is green in the Roaring Fork valley compared to Denver. Can't wait to go back!

The place was on fire. I think I caught all the fish on the property. A black Wooly Bugger or a red SJW fished deep were the best for fish 18-24". Smaller fish took anything on the surface. A Stimmys with a dropper worked but for the bigger fish you needed to go deep. 50 fish in 6 hours. I can't wait to go back.

Fished C-60 with another RMAC member. Arrived around 10:30 am. Pictursque day in the Roaring Fork Valley. Fishing was slow on the North Spring creek. Water was off color, 1-2 feet visability. Fish seemed to be holding at the head of the plunge pools. Nothing much hatching on surface so tried a variety of double nymph rigs. Switched over to the RF after lunch and did well in the pockets where you would expect to find fish. Ended the day fishing the ponds for an hour or so. All in all a decent day. Landed about 30 fish between us including a 20" brown and a pair of 19" bows.

Too many fish to count. Probably a couple dozen out of the creeks and another couple dozen out of the Roaring Fork. First cast, steps from the parking space, hooked a huge Rainbow out of the creek. We did two circuits of both creeks and the river, and each likely hold produced a fish or two on each pass. In the morning Pat's Rubber Leg, 20-Inchers, Juju Beatis and Red midges were alternating the hook ups. In the afternoon the stone fly patterns were still working and a Barr's Emerger was the dropper of choice. All the fish landed were in the 16"-18" range with a few bigger hook-ups in the river.

Beautiful day in Carbondale. Caught several 18--20" bows on green & yellow bugger. Seems like the big bows like color this year. A few strikes on foam hopper. 5-6 10-12" browns (looked like cousins) on WB in upper pond. Only fished the river at confluence with middle spring creek. As usual on C-60 lost two large fish after an unfair fight and 4x broken off. A great property for big fish.

Tough day on C-60 (as days there go). Unsettled weather through most of the day with a steady rain all morning. OK on the brookies in the lake on most anything stripped in, a few rainbows in the road hole on very small dries, but a tough day on the creeks. Brother caught one very nice rainbow on a PT nymph and I managed to coax one very nice old big boy out from under the bank with a mini-muddler/hopper in the afternoon after the sun came out, but put in a pretty intense day on most of the normal good spots on the spring creeks without the normal success. Came back after dinner and picked up a few more on midge dries just before dark. Getting to be more and more "museum pieces" and stock on the property all the time - a real collection. I've seen noticeable changes on the property over the ten+ years I've fished it.

Very HOT, sunny day.
Spring creeks fished well despite the heat. We were mainly sight casting to fish that were at bank edges or hiding out in the weed beds. Fished ants on the surface with red worm and FBPT. droppers. Equal takes on all. Bent a couple of hooks straights on some larger fish.
Creeks are crstal clear so stealth is essential , pinpoint casts and 5 x or 6x tippet necessary

Fork is pretty low and clear. Fished it in the afternoon for a couple of hours with limited success. But another RMAC member who was there said it fished O.K. in the morning when it was cooler.
Ponds were fun with risers all day.
Overall between the 2 of us 15 fish from the spring creeks and lost count on the ponds.

Great day with a “Grand Slam” plus Whitefish and even a Sucker! We fished from 9 to 6 and landed nearly 50 fish. The longer stretch of creek to the east was very cloudy early and we elected to fish the “Fork” first. The water was high and pushing, but that didn’t stop the Browns and an occasional Bow from slamming Golden Stones and Flashback Hares Ears.

We fished the west creek first and had moderate success with Red Worms and frequently changed second flies. (Prince’s, Scud’s, Pheasant Tail’s)

The big lake was great at the furthest inlet for a good thirty minutes, catching 10+ fish on Red Worms.

We moved to the eastern creek in the later afternoon and despite fewer fish landed several that were in the 18 inch range and our best a 22 inch THICK rainbow.

Great Day! The rainbows are stacked up in the spring creeks. My dad and I landed 30 fish using double egg setup (I know it sounds crazy, but it was working unbelievably) At one point we had to go to single egg setup because we got broke off by several fish trying to eat both eggs. The biggest fish of the day was 25inch bow. The big lake was slow, and the fork was blown out.

Fished the ranch with 2 guests. We split up in the morning with one fishing the large pond, one fishing the North Fork spring creek and one fishing the Roaring Fork. Even though we had bright sunny skies all waters fished very well. Fished the pond inlets with streamers and scuds under a hopper pattern and landed 12 to 15 fish including rainbows, browns, brook trout and I swear one lake trout. The roaring fork also fished well with small beadhead patterns under a dry fly. Also caught several fish swinging wet flys to the shallows in the middle section of the Roaring Fork. As for the spring creek, large scuds, size 14 olive colored under a hopper was the pattern they seemed to take best. Fished the deep water below the drops and caught 10 to 12 good fish with several in the 20 inch range. There was some BWO activity in the afternoon and got a few takes on the hopper. As a last comment, we all met at the large pond at the end of the day and fish were rising and taking small, size 20, BWO patterns. All in all a great day for me and my guests.

Only fished the middle creek from one end to other. No fish rising but a couple of 16-18" Bows on Para-Hopper. Went to small Wolly Bugger and landed many nice Bows ( up to 20") in afternoon. Fish about where they always are in deep pools. and long deep runs. Something always seems to work on C-60 and fish are in good form.

Weather was hot with cloudless skies. Fished only the spring creeks and ponds with hoppers and beatles on the surface and bead head nymphs below. Caught a few on the terrestrials but most on the dropper in the deep pools. Between the two of us we caught 15 fish including a couple of 20 inch rainbows. A good day considering the balmy conditions.

This was my initial trip to Gianinetti Spring Creeks. I arrived at the property around 0945. Fished from 1000-1430. Weather was in the upper 70's, clear, w/breezy conditions in the afternoon. I toured the ranch and observed several decent fish in the creek, particularly in the flats near the parking area. Since I have fished the Livingston Montana Springs Creeks extensively over the years, (Armstrong's, Depuy's and Nelson's, I didn't fish the creeks much. However, I did fish the only pond on the property. It fished well using 2, #16 Woodduck Nymphs w/shot. I fished the flies w/a slow retrieve/floating line. Landed 25 fish, predominately Brook Trout w/several Rainbows to the hand. Landed 1 double! The fished ranged in size from 10-15". A good day!

Second time to have fished Gianetti's in the past few weeks. The water in the creeks has fallen a bit and makes the fishing a bit more challenging. The Roaring Fork was still moving pretty fast = 800cfs). I spent very little time there because it didn't produce anything after half an hour. I was able catch about a dozen fish in the spring creek. More than half of them were in the 12" range, another couple in the 14 to 16" range and a couple more in the 19-20" range. I used a gold beaded hare's ear nymph and a green copper john. Both nymphs worked nicely. I strongly recommend that you explore all of the spring creeks particularly the North fork in the horse pasture. I caught many fish there and it tends to have much easier access to the creek. However, don't avoid the other parts of the creek where the grasses have grown high. You have to be tenacious to position yourself to catch fish and really can only rely on pretty short roll casts. But the fish are where you would expect them-- along the banks and in the deeper pools.

I took two buddies from North Carolina to the Gianinetti Spring Creeks for the day. The recent rains and cooler temps may have been the reason why fishing was a bit tougher than last week. The 3 of us anded 25 to 30 fish in total. We landed big Rainbows, some nice sized Browns + a Cutthroat, a Brookie and a White Fish. A thunderstorm rolled through about 3:00 and tended to put the fish down. The Roaring Fork is coming down so it won't be long before it is fishable. The fish of the day was a tape measured monster 24-1/2" hook jawed male Rainbow!!! A picture for the Hall of Fame will be forthcoming.

With the Eagle, Roaring Fork blown out and the Frying Pan mostly unfishable, I spent a very enjoyable afternoon on the Gianinetti Spring Creeks. The creeks were a bit off color due to the runoff but still very fishable. I landed about 20 to 25 fish, half Browns and half Rainbows plus 2 Cutthroats. The Browns were smaller and the Rainbows much larger.

I had hoped that there would be a Caddis hatch but I didn't see any bugs on the water nor any fish rising. It won't be long. I didn't catch any monsters but I know they are in there. I used various nymphs including scuds. Due to the color those with some flash seemed to work better. The fish were bright and strong. I also caught fish in both the pond and the lake. All in all a great afternoon of fishing.

I arrived at 9:30 and the main creek had fair visibility. I fished the main creek and had very good success with a tungsten 20 incher and below that a cream bead head san juan worm. I caught many Rainbows on the 20 incher closer to the main ranch area. As I moved further up the creek, the fish were taking the san juan worm. By 12:00 the creeks visibility was definitely changing color. The water turned to a coffee color. After lunch I switched over to a black leach pattern and I caught a few more fish. The creek right below the pond had better visibility. I tied on a large black ant and I caught a very nice 19” Rainbow on my 2nd cast. I caught another Rainbows further down that section on the ant. I stopped fishing at 2:30. I landed 12 nice fish and lost probably another 6. The weather was good but strong thunderstorms around the Carbondale area all day.

It was a warm windy Tuesday at the Gianinetti Ranch in Carbondale. The spring creeks were moderately high and off color which was an advantage to us anglers since the fish could not see us on the bank. Many rainbow were caught in the creeks using a San Juan worm. Some fish were also caught on the trailing fly of either a scud or copper john. The best fishing was below the culverts and beaver dam on the Main Spring Creek near the parking area and at the culvert near the end of the property on the North Fork Creek which yielded a 20+ incher. Good results were also obtaining in the lower pond using a streamer and near the end of the day fish took caddis and caddis emergers in the lower pond. The Roaring Fork was really roaring and no attempt was made to fish it. In all a very fun and productive day for two first-time anglers on the Ranch.

Beautiful early spring day in the Roaring Fork Valley--70 degrees, a lot of sun, and a modest west wind. Water was as low as I have seen it. Typical day on Gianinetti--20+ rainbows, cutbows, and browns. Two largest about 20 inches and lost 2 larger jumping rainbows. Best flies were green copper john (16&18), beaded red san juan worms, and CDC caddis pupa. Nothing on the surface. Best action on the upper portion of the property on the North Fork above the bridge in the deeper pools below the drop structures. Had to keep the rig down deep or no action. Saw nothing in the open stretches.

Caught 3 hefty rainbows on the lower section of the Fork near the confluence and 1 long 18+ inch brownie on a side channel upstream, but the water was high and a little discolored--tough wading.

Fish cruising and rising in the pond when I was leaving. Another good day on Gianinetti.

Way to much fun !!!! I was a little concerned when I walked up to the creeks and saw all the moss. I thought it would be a tough day of fishing. Wrong ! The deep pools were clear and full of fish. I caught about twenty fish from 9am to 2pm on hopper patterns and small prince nymphs. I fished up and down the North Fork most of the time. I returned about 3:30 and caught more fish in the same holes. About 6:00 pm I ventured down to the Roaring Fork and fished the edges until almost dark. Caught aother 8 fish including some nice fat rainbows and browns that really put up a fight. Used the same hopper and prince nymph dropper rig. What a great day !! I can't wait to fish this property next year during the summer.I never did get to the ponds and I could see them rising as I left up the driveway at the end of the day.

Weather perfect, no biting bugs yet ( and very little aquatic bug life either) Fished North Creek all morning. Water high and very off-color as the water pulled out of the Roaring Fork for ranch fields upstream is so muddy this year that it doesn't have a chance to get filtered. Despite off color water fishing was good- The fish aren't wary- ( you can't see them, they can't see you ) But you do have to hit them on the nose with brightly colored flies. As usual, red SJW did the trick with and occasional take on Flash back PT and Red Flash back Copper John. Fished the main creek just below the big pond after lunch and had quick easy hook-ups to large Rainbows. Didn't have enough time to go up the main creek but it looked a little bit less off-color than the North Creek. Caught 20 + fish between the two of us but nothing over 18" ( Used to a couple of the 20"+ but not this trip

Again another great experience, Ive never been here and gone away disappointed. One the first fish I thought this is different because it may have been the smallest fish Ive ever caught (12) here but it only took one more to dispel that. Maybe 20-25 fish during the day and after the first the rest were all over 16. Best about 20. The water was a little cloudy early but cleared somewhat. In the lagoon just above the road a fish were working the top mid morning and that resulted in some nice action and the largest fish of the day, the fish were not overly selective or spooky. Bead heads and san Juan worms also worked well in the quicker water however I did manage a couple in the pond swimming the worm

I caught 10+ Browns and Rainbows on a bead head Prince and San Juan worm rig. Because of the fast current I had on another 10+ fish but I did not get a good hook set with the fast current so the fish were on briefly and than got off. Nice clear day and a great day fishing.

Great property, but extremely difficult to fish, especially teaching a 6 year old how to fish. We fished in the afternoon and did extremely well in the 2.5 hours we fished. We caught 4 fish, all 20+. We had a hopper as the top fly and then tied on a chartruse copper john as a dropper 3 feet down. These creeks are much depper than I would have ever imagined. We missed a number of fish. 3 took the hopper and 1 drop the dropper. Make sure you have a 4 weight rod, with 4x or 5x tippet. These fish are strong and aggressive. I think the next time I will skip the 6 year old! Enjoy! +

I fished the creeks using a weighted dark green Woolly Bugger and sometimes I tied on a pink San Juan Worm as a trailing fly. The fish were in the deeper holes and you had to add weight to get to them. I caught most of the fish on the Wooly Bugger. The roaring fork was roaring and I only made a handful of casts. I caught 20+ fish, mostly rainbow and several browns. I fished from 8:00 a.m. till 7:00 p.m.; the fishing was really slow from 3:00 to 7:00. If you have never fished this property talk with the guides at "Alpine Angling" to get a feel for where the creeks are located and what's fishing well. They are VERY knowledable and friendly. I'm not much on just standing on the bank and fishing a pond but the large pond was incredible. 31 large rainbows in a few hours. It actually became boring. They would hit anything. Flies that I've have had for years and no idea what they are would immediately produce a fish. The creeks were very muddy and loaded with moss. Must check your fly almost every cast. However, several big fish and lots of fun. The Roaring Fork had a caddis hatch going and was also excellent fishing. 12 fish over 2 hours. Much more fun than the ponds. While the RMAC book states that fishing starts at 8:00am, the guide shop does not open until 8:30. Since you must pick up a "pass" from the shop, avoid waiting in the parking lot for 30 minutes and arrive closer to 8:30.

Large Cutbows were the order of the day and just about any well presented nymph produce nice fish all day. Cold and light snow chased us off by about 3:00, but we had about as much fun we could stand by then. The Roaring Fork was suprisingly unproductive(a couple of smallish Browns), but you don't want to spend too much time there when every hole in the creeks hold a couple of large viewable slabs.

This is a beautiful place with big fish galore. We ran across a picture perfect, chamber of commerce type day for Carbondale -72 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. The snow draped Mt. Sopris was breathtaking. With as skittish as these fish are in the creeks and as bright as the sun was on Sunday - we did not have as good of fishing as advertised. However, fishing was "decent" and each member of my group was able to catch at least one fat rainbow of 3+ pounds. The large pond fished very well on Woolly Buggers with a flash to them and we also caught a few fish on Hoppers in the streams that were very aggressive on the take. The majority of the fish caught in the streams were on Copper John's (Black), Red Magnifico's or Pheasant Tails. My concern is that this property has been hit so hard by guides and member anglers over the summer that the fish are almost afraid of their own shadow. Many fish were so easily spooked did not have a chance to cast to them. That left me a bit concerned about my 90$ rod fee X 2 guests. For that price perhaps this property should be restricted as to the number of days fished per year? Just a thought. Was it a good day? Yes. Was it worth the drive from Parker, CO? Yes. Will I be back? Yes - on either a cloudy day or for a half day when I can plan to fish well into the evening. Am I a complainer with a nice picture of a fat fall rainbow? Perhaps. Either that or I just have high expectations from what is a very good fishery. Toodles.

Beautiful day in Carbondale, 75 degress and just a little breeze. Fished the spring creeks the majority of the day as the Roraing Fork is mud. Took me a while to figure out what to catch them on but once I did, it was a fish about every other cast. Used a #10 Anelid worm with a buckskin dropper. Put the worm about 10incehes from an indicator and the trailing nymph about 6-8 inches from the worm. I didn't realize how shallow these creeks are until I adjusted my indicator to these depths. Ended up landing 8 really strong fish over 16" and lost another 5 or 6. Some other members were there working the ponds with success on nymphs. Bill

To echo previous comments, this property was one of the most challenging, diverse and productive I've had the pleasure of visiting since becomming a member. My 11-year-old son and I went wire to wire, starting on the nearest fork of the creek as we worked our way down to the Roaring Fork. Although the fish spooked easily if you weren't careful, I landed a healthy 19" Rainbow on a red Copper John trailed off a small PMD. We then waded a portion of "The Fork" where we had terrific action on a rig comprising a Drake emerger with a pinkish scud trailer. We landed three big Bows on the scud and one hefty Brown took the emerger before we broke off for a pre-lunch stint on the ponds. Big fish there too, but a bit finicky. We did manage a good size Rainbow on a standard Dave's Hopper and another on a small flashback PT, but action slowed for awhile. Each of us hooked up using black and olive Buggers on the upper pond, but when we hit the interior fork of the creek, things heated up fast. I landed another 10 to 12 extremely impressive fish on a San Juan Worm/Golden Stone set-up. I'm not kidding when I say that every fish I caught on this property exceeded 16" and about four came in over 24". Most were Rainbows, but I did pull in a beautiful Cutbow. We had a great time. My son even caught a couple snakes as they slithered across the paths in front of us. As I fished throught the last rays of sun, my boy was able to pet one of the friendly horses that roam the property. What a great day.

I met members Chuck Howard and Dale Darling (Saint Vrain Angling) at about 9am. It was a shirt sleeve day to fish but the water was off color due to run off. In the morning I had only landed one fish in the stream but managed to land about 10 in the pond near the inlets. All fish were 17 to 20 inch rainbows except for one nice brown. All were caught dead driffing a bead head Pheasant Tail Nymph. In the afternoon I went back to the stream and used a large Black Woolly Bugger with some success but when I switched to a large Olive Wooly Bugger I caught a fish in nearly every hole. After about 20 fish I quit at 4:30pm. All the fish I caught in the stream were rainbows and some ran 20" (none were under 16"). It was a great day of fishing and I know the other anglers also did well. They were back at the pond landing fish when I left. Dale can cast better than any angler I have seen. He had a nice bamboo rod to do it with. Bob

Outstanding fishing !! Although the morning was a little slower than on my previous trip, the afternoon and evening more than made up for it. We caught many fish including a very large cuttbow, and numerous huge rainbows. After lunch we visited Jeff at Alpine Angling, where we bought several "magnificos", a dropper which he created. We killed 'em with that fly throught the rest of the day and evening. You absolutely must get some of these from Jeff, when you fish this property. The biggest fish of the day was hooked with the "magnifico" in the late afternoon, and took me downstream 80 yards, having lept out of the water ,over a foot, three different times...but he broke off at the net,so I guess this will become just another fish story. We also had success with almond colored hoppers and navy blue copper johns. We hope you too can enjoy this beautiful and productive property. Chuck & Pat

Fished the morning of the 11th and had a delightful day. I have fished this creek for years (long before RMAC took over the leasing. It has always fished well and still does. I had great success with grasshoppers and other dries and took many large Rainbows and several nice Browns. I found my 3 weight floating line to be ideal.

My two boys and I fished this property for the 1st time. It took a while to get our bearings. Fewer fish landed than I expected but their size was nothing short of impressive. There were a few fish rising until mid morning but caught fish on dries on and off all day. Big strong fish both in the spring creeks & pond. All of us had BIG fish break us off. The Roaring Fork fished well too. Few fish rising in the pond but the fish hooked up were big. A great day fishing except for the Horse Flies as bug dope did little to deter them.

Excellent water. Fished from 8:00 am until 8:30 pm. The pond fished very well at approx. 9:00 am, had a great dry hatch, they were hitting PMD's and small dry midges. The creeks were on most of the day, slowed down a little later in the day. Flies of choice: Small Red San Juan worm - # 16-18 Beadhead Prince Nymphs - # 16 Mercury (Glass Head) Pheasant Tail - # 18 Copper John - # 18 PMD - # 16

Incredible! first fish of the day was a 23 inch rainbow and that pritty much set the pattern for the rest of the day. Big rainbows browns and cutts that would take any standard nymph. The Roaring Fork fished really well as well. Lots of fat browns on caddis nymphs. Got one nice rainbow in the pond but only fished it for a few minutes. Tons of water to fish and tons of un educated trophy fish.
