Only had a short time to fish so spent about an hour and half on the stream and caught several browns, mostly small until I hooked a 19" hook jaw Brown much to my surprise. Started with a hopper and kept it on the entire time. I'm sure a dropper would hve been productive but figured if they will take the dry why fight it.The stream is still flowing well for this late in the year so the deeper water and undercut banks were the spots to hit. Fished about a half hour on the pond on the way out and picked up 5 rainbows, all on black wooly buggers. Largest was about 15" but they were all very healthy and good color. With the Aspens in Fall color and catching fish it was a great day!

Fished from 11-4 with minimal success. The water is low and the fish are deep in the holes and hard to get at. Caught a few dinkers in the bottom of the riffles but got tired of losing flies to the roots and stuff where the real fish are hiding. Lots of hoppers but the fish just are not coming up for their food.

stream is low, and the fish are concentrated in the deeper holes.lost flies to the snags, but every time I managed to get a streamer under the cutbank I was rewarded with a strike.mostly browns from 12" to 18" but Idid land one very nice rainbow of 20". fished the pond in the afternoon out of my float tube and landed 6 fat, healthy rainbows all between 16"-20" buggers and a platte river special on the stream and damselfly nymphs and calibaetis emergers on the pond

I arrived early to fish this property for the first time. I was hoping to find the water level about the same of the previous reports but it was down considerably which reduced the fishable water. I fished a Double dry and Hopper/dropper rig from bottom to top with limited success. I think I landed 5 or 6 fish, mostly small Browns. One nice 14-15" Rainbow on the Hopper.
Mid day I took a break and threw in the pond and landed a very fat, strong 21" Rainbow. I couldn't get and others to take my dries nor a streamer so I headed back to the stream and threw a streamer in all of the deeper corners. I got a fair number of fish chasing the streamer but only one eat and landed a nice 14" Brown.
I am coming back to this property next year when there is more water.
I scared up a cow moose (actually it scared me!!) up near the top of the property, beautiful BIG animals. |

Very nice property. Willows not a big problem, neither were the mosquitoes which was a surprise.
Fished the entire day with a size 18 bead head phesant tail under a size 16 parachute adams. Caught too many small browns to count and one enormous 24" rainbow. Well, I didn't actually catch the rainbow as the BHPT pulled out of his lip with his head out of the water a foot from my net. Oh well, he wasn't going to fit in the net anyway.
A herd of fifteen or so elk walked by in the morning. I heard them talking to each other with that strange high pitched "choo" they make before I saw them.
No moose on the loose today.
I probably could have caught some bigger browns on a cone head bugger in the deep pools, but I'd rather catch a seven inch fish on a dry fly than one twice as big on a streamer. |

My wife and I arrived on the water around 9:30am and walked quite a ways down stream and worked our way back, picking up nice fish in several holes. Copper John and bead head prince seemed to work about the same. No activity on the surface except the occasional 10 inch brown. In the nice run just below the fence step by the river, I caught several nice fish on the way down and my wife caught so many on the way back her arm was tired. This was before lunch. In a nice run just up from the fence step, I caught several really nice rainbows and had several break offs with 6x and 5x tippet using prince nymphs. Changed to 4x and landed 4 before lunch. Came back to this hole after lunch and landed 6 really nice, fat rainbows, one resembling a football. Moved on upstream picking up nice fish in many of the runs. My wife picked up a few small browns on a dry fly, but the bigger rainbows were all on nymphs using a dry/dropper combo. I don't know how many fish we caught, but it was a lot. Nice clear day, pretty windy, and no mosquitos. ( probably thanks to the wind)

Weather was cold and windy with bright, sunny skies... water flow very low. Conditions made the fishing difficult and the fish spooky. We only landed a couple of small browns using BH nymphs in the deeper runs. We saw some huge fish well over 20"... unfortunately, they saw us first.

Nice little stream. Started fishing nymphs/streamers about 8:15 a.m. because there was no surface activity. Didn't catch anything with any subsurface combo. Switched to yellow stimulator and began catching fish. Later switched to grasshopper and continued catching fish, mostly 10 - 14 inches.
Went back to parking area for lunch and three more fishermen showed up taking upstream, middle and downstream positions. Basically forced me off property. Nice.
NOTE: This property only allows 2 fishermen unless they are all in one group. If other fishermen show up it is important to let us or the landowner know as soon as possible. We had no other reservations scheduled on this date. |

Fished on Saturday with two guests. The river is in perfect shape. Cool and clear. Water temp was 58 degrees in the morning an rose to 62 by late afternoon. The fishing started off gangbusters. Within the first 30 minutes I had caught 3 fish and saw one of my partners land 2. My other guest was out of sight, but was successful as well. Just after lunch a front went through, the temp dropped, the wind changed direction and it rained for a few mintues. It really put the fish down. We still caught a few more, however there were many short strikes and lots of refusals the rest of the day. We caught probably 15 to 20 fish between the three of us. We lost many more. It seems that those fish take a class on how to snag your dropper on a root ball and escape the grasp of your dry. It really is a challenge with a good sized fish. Hopper dropper seemed to be the best, with about half the strikes on each. Bigger was better, with hoppers sized 8-10. Anything smaller would get a refusal. Droppers were size 14 BH flashback PT and BH prince. After the fishing really slowed down the fish we caught were on black wooly buggers drifted almost into or under cut banks. The fish caught were 3 to 1 rainbows to browns. Fish ranged from 8 to 20 inches. Rainbows being the biggest. One of my guest caught a beautiful rainbow approaching 20 inches that made his day. Mosquitos were awful. Take lots of bug juice. They seem to enjoy the taste of it.

I arrived around 9:30am and it was TOO early. The water temp was in the upper 40s and the air temp had gotten down to around 38 degrees the night before. It had been several years since I was on this property and I moved upstream from the parking area rapidly. I tied on a tan crystal stimulator and there was only one taker on this fly. I also caught a couple of little ones on a lime greem copper John. I switched to a foam ant and caught several other small fish. I went downstream from the parking area after eating lunch. At about 1:30PM, the fun began. I kept the ant on and I caught several large browns and bows - at least they were large for a little stream such as this one. They were up to 15" long - or roughly three times as long as the browns that I caught in the morning. This is a beautiful, remote area. The one downer is that the pine beetle damage in the area is devastating. I cannot believe how many trees have turned that nasty, rust/brown color.

Water low and clear. Fishing was slow in the morning and hot and heavy in the afternoon. Used pmd's in the morning and got smaller fish. Late in the afternoon and into the evening used royal stimmy and caught larger fish. 5 broke off. Caught one that was close to 4 pounds.

Fished half a day on South portion (upstream side). Water is low and clear, typical fall water. Caught 15-20 fish in 5 hours. All rainbows in first 1/4 section and all browns in upper 3/4 section. Rainbows all 14-15 inches, Browns from 3 to 13 inches (mostly 10-13 inches, a few small guys). Caught 5 rainbows and lost 2 others in the first 20 minutes and 200 or so yards of th parking area. Fish were holding in all types of water, even the shallower riffles. Used #8 Bead Head Hares Ear nymph under a dropper most of the day. Some rising fish around 530pm, caught two on #14 Grey Drake dry. Beaver ponds in mid section have been broken to allow water to flow. Total fun and easy fishing. Did not fish the pond or downstream portion of river.

Fished the Michigan and the pond for about an hour each. The River fished very well for 8-12 inch browns and 12-15 inch rainbows on a hopper dropper. Caught one 15 inch rainbow in the pond on a bugger. Really nice property, wish I could have stayed longer.

Fished the little pond and caught one trout - but it was MASSIVE. The fishing in the pond was poor outside of the slob brown trout that I caught. The river was RIPPIN'! However, several fish were caught on BH Princes and Western Coachman wets. This is a nice spot and the owner is a nice guy. We chatted for a little while.

Heading out this morning and its going to be cold or so it appears. As I drive through Winter Park its spitting snow and 30 degrees. I arrive at the property and find the water is as low as the clouds threatening even more snow. Walking down river I spook two trout into swimming up river over the rocky bottom. Their backs are just barely covered by the water. Working my way up stream the Bead Head Flashback Pheasant Tail is the fly to use. Trailing from a Hopper Dropper I catch a nice 14 rainbow. Later a 13 brown is in the net. As the weather improves the fishing seems to do the same. In the pool below the beaver dam near the upstream property boundary I actually watch a brown take the Hopper Dropper. We fight for possession of the fly for a few seconds with Mr. Brown returning it to me from about twenty feet away. Would have been nice to see him in the net, but seeing him take a hopper in October was good enough.

Low water, tough fishing during a bright summer sky. Worked for everything. Long drive from Denver to have to nymph deep holes for small but spirited fish. Reading comedy novel "Jurassic Trout" might have been a better alternative. Would fish better with more water and small rod. Willows fought well, however.

Spent all day on the river. Several hatches underway, midge, 2 caddis, mayflies. Nymph and dries both worked, lost count of the number of trout caught. Best Brown of the day was on a smallish deer hair caddis dry. About 15 inches. The best part of the lease, IMO, is the downstream 50%. Fish were holding mostly at the head of the pools. I would go back later in the summer

Very good day of fishing. Over 30 fish, including a 14 inch brown, a 17 inch rainbow and one even bigger that broke me off. s14/16 royal wulff w/bh hare's ear. Most took the hare's ear by plenty on the dry.

Fooled about a dozen fish. Half of the count was small Browns, 6 to 12 inches. The rest larger Rainbows 12 to 17 inches. The flow was very nice and the water plenty clear. Hoppers produce a few nice fish but bug activity on top was pretty much non existant unless you count mesquitos. Kris caught her half of the tally(this one was a tie) all underneath with #16 Chartruese and regular Copper Johns and #18 BHPT. Didn't try the pond it really was really a strange off color with lots of moss and no apparent activity.

What a beautiful day for our(my) 40th. That's right today was my 40th.....fishing trip to a RMAC property this year.(40 trips to 18 different properties since A16 on 3-3-01) It's not my favorite but it ain't bad, especially if you give it a little more water. That's right, the water is low, what a surprise, huh. Well, we decided to change our attitude, quit complaining about low flows and just find out the truth about how good of anglers we really are. Kris says, YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH! The surprising thing about the 8 fish(4 each) we caught was the size, girth and strength. Nice Rainbows to 16" were the norm for the day. I did catch 1 nice 14 in. Brown in the beaver pond area on the upper property (real tough access)but I think with just 5 CFS the Browns will be a rarity for now. All fish were caught on the upstream side of the second fence step as Walt Jaakkola mentioned above. We caught fish on a variety of bugs. #12 Para Hoppers, Pheasant Tail trailing my hopper and still on top, #14 Orange and Tan Stimulators, Royal Wuff #14, and a few on #16 Prince droppers. It was a fun day on a small water(our preferred type)and we will definitely return when there is more water. We ran out of time so we just fished the pond for 10 minutes with no luck, although fish were coming up.

Fished in a driving rain/sleet storm. Snowing in the beautiful mountains above me. The river was very low but still caught 5 Rainbows in the 12-14" range and a small brown. All were caught on a #18 Flashback PT upstream of where the road and fence cross the river. The stream widens and gets deeper about 50 yards up from there. There was also a nice hole a little further up where the stream makes a sharp bend. This hole is about 5-7 feet deep and I caught 3 of the Rainbows out of there. The downstream stretch on the other side of the fence was too low to be productive, however I did see a cow moose staring at me from the other side of the stream. Didn't fish the pond but did see some risers right before I left.

Beautiful spot and very good fishing for both Browns and Rainbows. The stream has lots of character with riffles, small runs and undercut banks so 8 hours wasn't too long for this 1.5 mile section. Lots of bug action, PMD, caddis and a few Drakes, both mid-morning and in the evening.Didn't really need to match the hatch, attractors worked just fine. Lots of mosquito's also so bring repellent.

This property was in prime shape the other day all be it fairly low for this time of year. I lucked out with an overcast day most of the day with little to no wind. It turned out to be an ideal dry fly day. Most dries worked but a Dorato Hare's ear dry fly in a size 14-18 proved to be the fly of the day. There are a few very nice deep holes-fish these very carefully. Brown trout that were very feisty along with spunky stocked rainbows-a few quite large. I used a 8 1/2 ft Sage LL 4 wt that was an ideal rod for this property.
