A very good day. Really, really great fishing. Caught a lot of fish, close to 100--about a fish every 2 minutes or 25 an hour. In the morning fished the lower section and did the upper section in the later afternoon. Best flies were a beadhead Western Coachman on top and a beadhead Prince on the bottom. Felt like anything with peacock or white calf tail would work well. Another good top fly was a hair-winged Rio Grande King in s16. I would suggest that if the water comes up a bit tie on a floating ant pattern. The ground is covered with them. South Park was totally unusual this day with NO WIND. I would suggest if you have wind a really good pattern would be an Olive Woolly Bugge. There are tons of little fish that the larger browns would going after.

Relatively calm day by South Park standards - a little wind in the afternoon. Temp's went from 50 to around 68. Started fishing around 9:00 am and quit around 4:00. Caught a couple dozen browns all between 10" and 13". Most were pretty healthy and if you put anything in front of them they ate it. Caught fish on most of the standard nymph patterns including BH Prince, BH Hare's Ear and green Copper John's. Tied on a big green wooley bugger late in the afternoon and caught fish on the first four casts. Stream flow was reported at 8 or 9 which seemed about perfect. Water color was clear.

Fished from 8:45 until 4:00. I caught well over a dozen fish (lost count). Vast majority were brown trout in the 10-12 inch size. A couple rainbow in the 12-14 inch range. Very little surface action. Caught almost every fish on a black zebra midge. Didn't have a single take on a variety of BWO dry fly patterns. Just below the downstream boundary (in public water) is a section with a very deep pool. I had two strikes there that broke off. These felt like I might have hooked on to somewhat larger fish. The property is fairly short but the location is really picturesque.

I was on the water fishing by 10:00 a.m left at 5 p.m. The morning was cool and calm. Runoff doesn't appear to have started yet. The river was slightly tea stained and the creek was gin clear. The water temp is still ice cold and it took a little while for the fish to get moving. I'll start by crediting Mr. Helms with some assists. My first four fish came on a size 18 bh prince. I followed the prince with a s20 chocolate midge emerger. After the first four fish on the prince everything else hit the midge. The fish were lying in the deeper runs and riffles. They moved into shallower water as the water warmed, but nevere too far from deep water. I had to work hard not to spook fish, creeping into position and making long casts. If I saw a fish spook, I might as well move on to the next hole. In all I caught 15 fish and lost 3. All the fish except the first four were on a s20 chocolate or black midge emerger. Two thirds of the fish were 16 inches or longer. The longest being a 20" brown. I also had a couple 19" fish with many in the 17 to 18 inch range. Nine browns, five rainbows, and one brookie. Great day and I don't thing I covered half of the water available. I can't believe I haven't fished this property before.
Last, I'd like to make a book recommendation. If you like reading about fishing and also enjoy a good murder mystery, check out "The Royal Wulff Murders". Just finished it the other day and loved it.

We were on the water by 8 am and fished from pontoon boats until 4pm. The water temps were in the 60's and it was stained. The weather was hot, windy and clear, a glorious day in my book!! We started with the bluegills to get a feel for the day which kept us busy for while. We used Elk Hair Caddis, Yellow Humpies and Beatles which the Gills would smash!! The bass were moving however they were not really interested in the morning offerings. The afternoon we started to have some bass action. The smaller fish where hitting top water flies and black woolly buggers. We had one of the larger fish hit a Dalhberg Diver casted at the bank but we missed the strike. We worked all types of presentations which included a number of poppers, streamers and wolly buggers.
Great Day on A-13!!
